Same Sex Couple Babies

Researchers from Cambridge University and Israel’s Weizmann Institute of Science are claiming a stem cell research breakthrough that would allow a baby to be created from the skin cells from two adults, no matter their gender. This potentially allows for infertile couples to have their own children without resorting to sperm or egg donors, and may provide the means for same sex couples to produce their own babies.
Previously only successful in experiments on mice, the new research has been conducted on human cells for the first time. In this study, the researchers paired stem cell lines from embryos with the skin of a range of different adults, with the resultant cells compared to aborted fetuses to determine an identical match.
Creating human egg and sperm cells from the skin of two adults of the same gender immediately raises the possibility of same sex couples procreating and offering an alternate pregnancy path for infertile couples. Of course, it also opens the door to a new minefield of ethical and moral implications, but the researchers note that many people may potentially benefit from the technique.

Smarter Coffee

"Smarter Coffee" lets you brew your perfect cup of coffee from your smartphone or tablet. The Smarter app controls the grinding of the beans, coffee strength and how many cups to make, then wakes you when your coffee is ready and keeps it warm for 20 minutes. The free iOS and Android apps provide a host of other features including notifications when the machine needs more water or when it's running low on coffee beans. You can set schedules to suit your lifestyle. The Smarter app can also learn your routines and suggest times you might want a cup of coffee. There's even a Welcome Home mode so you can have a cup of fresh, hot coffee waiting when you walk in the door after work.

Tracky Sportswear

Indian startup ProjectPOLE is now offering feedback to athletes with its Tracky motion-tracking sportswear. Tracky consists of a compression top and pants, upon which are mounted 11 9-axis accelerometers, a heart rate sensor and a temperature sensor. Those are all connected to a strap embedded in the shirt. As the user performs their given activity, data from the sensors is stored on the hub. It's also transmitted in real time via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to their iOS or Android device. An app n that device processes the data, allowing the user to monitor and track various parameters of their performance. If the user's biomechanics, form or posture aren't right, it will let them know. It also helps them maintain an optimum heart rate while traning, warning them to stop and rest when they're in danger of overheating, along with setting fitness/performance goals and sharing their progress online.

Eero home Wi-Fi

Home is where the Wi-Fi is, and we know that it is by no means perfect. Home Wi-Fi networks can suffer from dead spots, weak signals and interference. The new Eero Wi-Fi system seeks to solve these problems. Eero not a router, instead it is one or multiple additional units that are located around the user's home.
As well as improving the speed and reliability of a home network, Eero says the system is easy to use, secure and, to some extent, self-managing. There is a mobile app that allows users to check the speed of a network, to invite guests to a network and to receive notifications when new devices connect to a network. A single Eero can be pre-ordered now for US $125 or a set pf three for $299.
