Do Now 9/29

Opinion: Wikipedia is more than just a global encyclopedia

An editorial is an article in a newspaper or other periodical that presents the opinion of the publishor or editor(s). Wikiepedia is an online encyclopedia that holds a lot of information that can be used to find answers for many of your questions. My teachers have told me that Wikipedia is an unreiable source that should not be used for schoolwork. They do not allow me to use Wikipedia on the argument that not all of its information is true. According to this article, that may be wrong.
After reading this article, I believe more strongly that Wikipedia is in fact reliable, unless somebody puts in the wrong information. In the case that there is unfactual info in a Wikipedia editorial, there are people to fix it and put in the correct facts. Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia that should be allowed to use in research papers and other school work. It is a very useful website that has a lot of information that helps not only children but adults as well. Many people love using Wikipedia to help them with their work.

Tiny implants could give humans self-healing superpowers

A new military-sponsored program is aspiring to create a little device to implant in the human body that will use electrical impulses to monitor the body's organs. This would heal these vital body parts if they ever become infected. The program is known as Electrical Prescriptions, ElectRx. It may reduce dependency on pharmaceutical drugs and construct new and better ways to diagnose, monitor, and treat injury and illness. The branch of the United States Department of Defense that is responsible for developing the program is the Defense Advanved Research Project Agency (DARPA). The device would be so small that it could be injected by a needle. If DARPA would be successful, it could also hopefully lead to the creation of implants that aid in treatments to help brain and mental-health disorders.

Alegbra II

This year, one of the content classes I am taking is Algebra II, with Mr. Olsen. The class is first period in room 108. When the class first started, I expected a repeat of what I finished learning in freshman year Algebra I, and then go further delve further into algebra. So far, I have had my memory refreshed with some of the things I learned in Algebra I, as well as some things I never knew. Some of the things we will be learning are the real number system, linear system, expressions, equations, and inequalities, and patterns sequences and functions. Also, we will be learning quadratic equations and dunctions, polynomials and polynomial functions, rational functions, and probability and statistics.

Mr. Olsen's grading policy is 70% formal assessments , 20% formative assessments, and 10% homework. Within the category of formal assessments, quizzes are 25% and tests are worth 45% of the 70%. Our final grade will be calculated from the 4th marking period grades and mid term/final exam. There are virtually no interesting aspects of the class because it is an algebra class and algebra is math and I abhor math. Nothing can possibly make any miniscule part of algebra an enjoyable subject to learn.

Mr. Olsen uses his iPad and connects it with a smartboard, in order to introduce technology into the class. In the beginning of class, he sets up a do-now on the smartboard with a timer for 5 minutes. When the timer goes off, a song turns on and we must go over the do-now with Mr. Olsen. If I did not despise the subject of algebra so much, this would be almost an interesting assignment. This year, I expect to expand my knowledge of algebra in my Period 1, Algebra II class with Mr. Olsen.

When is 5G coming? And how fast will it be?

We have lived through 3G, and then through the must faster 4G, but are we looking at a possibility for an even faster 5G? Said 5G would need to be much faster than our current 4G in order to impress any of us. It’s arrival time is an unknown, if in fact 5G will ever come to exist, the soonest being 2020. Also, in order to even create 5G, the problems of 4G would need to be found and solved. No one really knows what 5G is yet but people have an idea on what it can do. This faster internet connection can open up all new possibilities for new inventions that can be of more use than simply fast wifi connection. Only time will tell us what the future may bring.
